Mile 33 is Back!

5 04 2009

mile33_09albumMile 33 has been with Alamosa SERVE for 5 years and they’re back, for another year of praise and worship. Get ready!

Mile 33 is a worship band that focuses primarily on helping people worship our Lord Jesus through song. We have been playing together over 7 years and have enjoyed our opportunities to praise Christ at many places throughout Southern, Colorado. We lead worship for Christ, as He is our hope, righteousness, joy, and He is also our beloved God who knows how we feel and cares for us. It is by the Grace of Christ that we exist. We hope that Christ is visible through what we do and we hope that God is glorified in our music.

We picked the name Mile 33 long before the current band “33 Miles” and we are sticking by it. We call oursleve Mile 33 becasue Jesus was 33 years old when He gave His life for us and it was the last mile of His life that is our only hope.

The Band consists of:

Bobby Cody (Lead Electric Guitar) (Lead Male Vocal), Jason Cody (Lead Rythym Accoustic Guitar) (Backup Male Vocal), Wayne Cody (Bass), Arleigh Johnson (Drums & Percussion), Sarah Cody (Lead Female Vocal).

Ready to Live Inside Out?

2 04 2009

yu2009-living-inside-out-21Living inside out kinda sounds gross.. Can you imagine someone walking around inside out? This year’s theme is based on Romans 12:1-2;

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

If you look around you, everyone is trying so hard to be different. They might change their hair, their clothes, appearance.. but when it all comes down to it, we end up looking and acting like everyone else. God made each one of us different. Different in our appearance and different in our gifting. If we choose to live our lives the way God intended, we will finally see that we are unique. We are different. All we have to do is live inside out.

Day Away

29 06 2008

We ventured off to The Great Sand Dunes National Park wednesday and took in some needed free time. Many climbed to the top, while others stayed at the bottom and enjoyed the river. It is kinda like a beach without the surf and ocean. Great Fun!

After our trip to the dunes we then traveled over to the Sand Dunes Swimming Pool. Because this pool is a hot springs, the temperature stays very warm.

Lots of relaxing and fun!

First Half

26 06 2008

Well we have the first half of the week done, with many sites flourishing and shining with the light of God’s presence.

We have helped quite a few individuals who have moved these students tremendously. From cutting up wood for a paralized stroke victim, to painting a house for a single mother living with M.S., who is also taking care of her handicapped child named Isacc.

These servants have never wavered from their tasks. They are true servants for God and his kingdom.

Jim Lane “The Speaker” has taught us this week to notice the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and to not marginalize our friends, family and peers. Great first half!

Stations of the Cross

24 06 2008

Sunday was a day of personal discovery and motivation. In church we discussed “Rediscovering the Church” out of the events that happened on Pentecost. Just as God gave the believers his purpose through the commission, he also gave us the power through the holy spirit.  Through those two things we have confidence to serve others. The way church was first designed.

We then took a trip to San Luis, CO. to see the “Stations of the Cross”. It is a series of bronze sculptures spread throughout a hillside heading up to a chapel. Even though it is a “Catholic” shrine, it still makes every individual think about the walk Jesus did up to Galgotha. Great experience and a great day!

Kick Off

23 06 2008

So here we are, Saturday night, with everyone finally here. We are blessed to have such an awesome group. We started off with a great supper (baked potatoes), then went in for introductions, worship with help from our Band Mile 33 and speaker Jim Lane. Then off to small groups for devos. Great first night

Our Speaker

7 06 2008

Jim Lane is all about lives transformed by God’s love. Knowing how many times in his life he’s blown it, he’s bent on people letting God breathe life back into the broken pieces of their hearts and lives… through the saving grace of Jesus. While we’re on the subject, he is passionate about people meeting the REAL Jesus, not the ones that people sometimes make up in their heads.

Jim is a father of four, a husband of one, and has misplaced his hair. He’s a 17 year veteran of youth ministry, and has worked in summer camps, gang-risk teen outreaches, church youth ministries and… um… oh yeah also he worked for two weeks at Burger King. Jim wants you to know he’s been a lot of things, but he’s NOT been a woman named Freida. Jim is into mountain biking and everything outdoors… but mostly his family, music, writing, and you know what? He also really digs those small multi-packs of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups ®
He is currently Pastor of Youth & Outreach at a suburban church in Colorado.
